Implementing all the quality standards in the College of Engineering in order to acquire academic accreditation at the international and national level.

Policy of the Quality Assurance Unit

College of Engineering – Najran University

Article (1)

To establish a quality assurance unit in the college in order to follow up on the creation of an internal system for quality and implement a comprehensive system for the development and evaluation of university performance, including the educational, academic, research, administrative, training and counseling aspects, in order to ensure continuous development.

 

 

Article (2)

Vision of the Quality Assurance Unit:

Implement all the quality standards in the College of Engineering in order to acquire academic accreditation at the international and national level.

Article (3)

Mission of the Quality Assurance Unit:

Achieving excellence and distinction in the teaching of engineering and applied research in order to better serve the college and community and stimulate progress.

Article (4)

The administrative structure in the Quality Assurance Unit in the College of Education in the Najran University should be as follows:

Article (5)

Constituting a council for the Quality Assurance Unit whose job description is as follows:

President of the Council of Quality Assurance Unit: Dean of the College

Tasks:

Follow up on the implementation of recommendations and decisions taken by the Quality Assurance Unit and approved by the councils of scientific departments and the college council, in order to establish and activate an internal system to ensure quality in the college, and follow up on the response to development and change.

Vice-president of the Council of Quality Assurance Unit:

Vice-rector of the College of Engineering

Tasks:

Follow up on the implementation of the standards of quality in all matters related to teaching, learning, scientific research, community service, and the different academic activities in the college.

Executive Director of the Quality Assurance Unit:

He supervises quality in the college and his appointment is subject to the approval of the Council of the College and the University's Vice-Rectorship for Development.

Tasks:

Determining and following up on the implementation of standards of quality in the fields of educational target results of the programs, courses and curricula, and evaluating students, teaching, learning, student support, learning references/ resources, quality management and improvement, scientific research, other academic activities and community participation, in order to establish a good internal system for quality assurance.

Council members of the Quality Assurance Unit

From the college:

The teachers, presidents of the department councils, representatives of the members of the teaching staff in the college:

Tasks:

Managing the development activities in the educational programs for the Bachelor phase in the scientific departments.

Representatives of Assistant lecturers and assistant teachers:

Tasks:

Implementing the development activities in the scientific departments of the different educational programs of the College of Engineering and conducting as well as analyzing field surveys

Financial and Administrative Director:

Tasks:

Managing the activities related to the development and improvement of the administrative body in the college.

Managing the activities related to the improvement and development of the employees' affairs.

Representative Students for the Bachelor phase (2 students):

Tasks:

Taking part in the activities of the Quality Assurance Unit related to the development of teaching and learning as well as the support of students for the Bachelor phase.

From outside the College:

Project Management Director, Representative of the beneficiaries

And Engineering Consulting Office for the facilities of the university city

Tasks:

Playing an advisory role in all the activities related to the community service, the phases of implementation of an internal system for quality in the college and the phases of the system activation.

Article (6)

The Board of Directors meets once a month.

Article (7)

The Quality Assurance Unit encompasses a number of committees having specific tasks each, as follows:

1- Follow-up and Management Committee

This Committee will be responsible for the study and analysis of the following:

{C}·         {C}Reports of all the committees formed for the project execution.

{C}·         {C}Reports of internal and external auditors

{C}·         {C}Course evaluation by students

{C}·         {C}Opinions of the teaching staff, their assistants and the administrative body

{C}·         {C}Participating in the drafting of quarterly and annual reports, in line with the requirements of the National Committee for Quality Assurance

{C}·         {C}Preparing for the visits of peer reviewers

{C}·         {C}Elaborating charts that include the findings of studies and analyses that will serve to put forward future and annual implementation plans in order to develop the different educational programs as well as the college in general.

{C}·         {C}Follow-up on the drafting of the description and reporting of the courses, according to the requirements of the National Commission for Academic Accreditation & Assessment (NCAAA).

 

2- Strategic Planning Committee

{C}·         {C}Putting forward a strategic plan for the college in order to develop all elements related to teaching, education, scientific research, and community service, for the phases of bachelor and higher studies and elaborating policies and mechanisms that ensure continuous progress and improvement.

{C}·         {C}Identifying the areas where development is required in terms of teaching, education, scientific research, and community service, for the phases of bachelor and higher studies.

{C}·         {C}Elaborating the mission and vision of the college as well as its strategic objectives, and putting forth policies and mechanisms that guarantee continuous progress of such elements, in conformity with the prevailing changes.

{C}·         {C}Identifying policies and mechanisms that help achieve the strategic objectives of the college.

3- Committee on the description and reporting of programs and courses for the Bachelor phase

{C}·         {C}Following up on the elaboration of descriptions and reports of the different educational programs in the college, as per the requirements of the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCAAA)

{C}·         {C}Ensuring that the councils of the different departments grant their approval regarding the descriptions and reports of the programs given in each department.

 

Advisory and counseling role:

{C}·         {C}Ensuring that each educational program identify and implement the academic criteria it adopts, in conformity with the mission of the college.

{C}·         {C}Comparing between the academic standards adopted by the course and the benchmark academic standards selected by each course, whether national or international (similar course in an international university)

{C}·         {C}Ensuring that the councils of the department approve the descriptions and reports of the courses that are given in the different programs.

{C}·         {C}Ensuring that, at the end of each semester, the lecturer/ coordinator of each course submit the report of the course to the head of the department.

Advisory and counseling role:

{C}·         {C}Ensuring that each educational program (related to a scientific department) keeps a file of each course "course file" and include the following:

{C}-          {C}Description of the course

{C}-          {C}Samples of previous exams

{C}-          {C}Results of the student evaluation of the course

{C}-   {C}Percentages of the students who dropped the course, as well as of the percentages of the successful and failed ones.

{C}-          {C}Any other relevant information.

{C}·         {C}Ensuring that two copies of the course be kept, one for the lecturer who gives the course and the other for the head of department or course coordinator, which helps follow up on performance.

4- Committee on the development of curricula and programs for the Bachelor phase

{C}·         {C}Conducting a study for the curricula given by the different educational programs for the Bachelor phase in the college, in order to determine the following:

{C}-       The suitability of the percentages of the courses related to the specialization,  basic sciences, language, computer, practical training, human and social sciences, in order to achieve the objectives of such programs.

{C}-           {C}The number and percentages of electronic courses

{C}-         The suitability of the competences acquired by students during their education in the different educational programs in the college with the competences required by the labor market.

{C}·         {C}Putting forward a vision for preparing a college policy related to the system of adopted hours, encouraging self-learning as well as e-learning in the different educational programs, and helping students acquire the skills required in the labor market and the continuous developments. 

5- Committee on the follow-up of exams

Implementing relevant quality standards, through the following:

{C}1.      {C}Specifications of exam halls

{C}2.      {C}System of exam questions

{C}3.      {C}System of answer forms of the exam questions

{C}4.      {C}System of correction forms of the exam questions

{C}5.      {C}Record keeping system

{C}6.      {C}Preparing exam tables

{C}7.      {C}Posting final results

{C}8.      {C}Dealing with students' complaints regarding exams

6- Committee on the educational references and student support

{C}1.      {C}Conducting studies on the current status of the library (number of modern books and references, electronic research about the books and references, opening hours, frequency rate, availability of specialists in libraries, photocopy, area, lighting, air conditioning, safety measures)

{C}2.      {C}Conducting studies on the current situation of classrooms (availability of modern teaching media, lighting, area, air conditioning, furniture)

{C}3.      {C}Conducting studies on the current status of the workshops (lighting, area, air conditioning, safety measures, availability of modern equipment, chemicals and raw materials, availability of trained technicians, availability of posted guidelines to face disasters, research on self-learning)

{C}4.      {C}Submitting reports regarding the different studies to Strategic Planning Committee, Internal Follow-up Committee and Committee on the development of curricula.

{C}5.      {C}Conducting studies on the current situation regarding the following:

{C}-          {C}Establishing a hall (or several halls) and making it available for students, and teaching staff as well as their assistants to use the internet connection.

{C}-          {C}Ensuring internet connection access in the different scientific departments.

{C}-          {C}Activating the services to be provided by the technology club for the students, the teaching staff as well as their assistants and the community members.

{C}6.      {C}Continuous evaluation of the situation and the impediments of self-learning and e-learning in the different educational programs.

7- Committee on community service

{C}-          {C}Establishing a comprehensive database related to the services offered by the college to the community.

{C}-          {C}Putting forward a policy and a mechanism that broadens the scope of the services offered by the college to the community, in conformity with the mission of the college and following up on the execution.

{C}-          {C}Elaborating a mechanism that measures the satisfaction of the community members from the services offered to them by the college and following up on the execution.

Article (8)

The committees meet as per the requirements of the required activities during the academic year.

Article (9)

The Department of Administrative Affairs implements the administrative tasks assigned thereto in the Unit.

Article (10)

Unless otherwise stipulated in this Policy, the rules mentioned in the Law regulating Saudi Universities, its executive regulations, as well as the guidelines and regulations of the Ministry of Higher Education.
